In this video, Dr. Berg explains what mTOR means. mTOR or mammalian target of rapamycin is a certain pathway mainly the master controller of protein synthesis. When mTOR is high, it promotes growth in the body and even can stimulate the growth of tumors. When it’s low the pathways are different and is more on repair and maintenance of the body and stimulates autophagy. Autophagy is the recycling of damaged proteins and old proteins into new amino acids to build new tissue.
Things that Could Spike mTOR:
• Amino Acids
Hey guys! Today we are gonna talk about something called mTOR, mammalian target of rapamycin. I am gonna make it really really simple because there is a lot of complexities of what this is of certain pathways, biochemical pathways. It is a certain pathways, mainly the master controller of protein synthesis. That’s really what it is. And when it is high, it promotes growth in the body and even it can stimulate the growth of , it is more for repair and maintenance of the body. When it is low, you stimulate autophagy. Autophagy is the recycling of damaged proteins and old proteins that are not needed and the recycling of that into new amino acids to build new tissue. It is like anti-aging. So the goal is to keep it low if you’re an adult. Now the question is, what will make it high? The two things that fuel it are basically glucose and amino acids. Now if we do a keto diet, we are actually going low insulin, we are going moderate protein, if we add intermittent fasting we are gonna go even lower protein because our body doesn’t need much protein. It recycles more we can get an autophagy and we can actually have lower mTOR. Basically, keto (ketogenic diet) and intermittent fasting will keep this under control and out your body in a repair mode and maintenance mode. Alright, thanks for watching!
